Just finished a commission for a client. I liked how this one turned out. I usually don't attempt much realism in Photoshop.

The Dreamer- Final version and Painting Process

This is my final painting for my Painting 1 class. We basically had free reign. I had originally wanted to paint a woman "falling into imagination." But I decided against that idea/composition. I had sketched a composition similar to the final product here and decided to go with that idea. Originally she was going to be holding some sort of light balls that were floating away and her hair was going to be changing colors. However, I just decided to leave it as this.

The background is all done with a palette knife over multiple layers. I used my friend as skin and pose reference. I wanted the painting to have a drawn look to it, so I outlined the face and shoulders and kept the hand line art. 

Process:

Sketched on canvas.

Trying to figure out what to do with the background. Discarded the rainbow vomit.

Some base colors.

My friend drew over the pose in photoshop. Looked a lot better.

Tried to fix pose and get some hair color in.

Tried to paint skin without a good reference. Bad Idea.

Got a reference and drew hands. Blocked in color for chest, shoulders and hands, and then started blocking in color in the face. Realized the face was too small.

Made face bigger and painted it. Then repainted hair.

Got some of the background trees in and some colors.

 Started getting the Nintendo 64 controller, Nintendo game, pens, markers, carpet, and ink bottle in.

 Finishing up markers and nintendo game and starting the books and VHSs.

 Work on the VHSs and finishing everything else. Adding blue in background.

Painting: Nostalgia for the Past

This is still life I did about myself for my beginning painting class. I chose objects that reflected my personality and dreams. As a child, I loved Disney movies and they inspired me to fall in love with drawing and pursue it as a career. Video games also inspired me to be imaginative and creative. I added the toys because I can remember playing many hours with that My Little Pony and stuffed horse and creating stories for them. The books are a art history book and book on Medieval Legends. I love art history and middle age lore. I also added the pens, markers, paper, and a sketch book to reflect how these other objects inspired me to become an artist.

 I worked an insane amount of hours on this. But I am pretty proud of it. I think it is my best painting yet. I may go back to it later and rework the "Bambi" logo and the image of Bambi himself.

New still life. First time using colors. I had a lot harder time with this one and an not to fond of it.

First still life of the semester. This is my second painting ever. I am enjoying painting class so far. That smashed thing and the cactus were hardest to paint. Still not satisfied with them.

Painting: A Mug

I am taking a painting class for the first time in my life. I have never used oil paints to paint before so this is my first painting ever. I didn't think it was too bad considering I have never used the medium before.

So far I am enjoying the class!

 This is the tonal I did for practice before hand.
